The Literacy Symposium will provide PreK to college educators with an opportunity to explore the relationships among language, reading, and writing, plus connect theory to classroom practice. Sessions are designed for teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, curriculum directors, and professional developers.
Hawkins (Texas) Elementary School and Andover (Mass.) High School are the grand prize winners of the “#IAmMore” contest, Voyager Sopris Learning and WeAreTeachers jointly announced today. Earlier this school year, the #IAmMore movement was introduced, designed to embolden educators and students to effect change, believe in the power of literacy, and allow them to claim their strengths and potential.
A recent, large-scale experimental study funded by a National Science Foundation (NSF) demonstrated that TransMath was highly effective in helping struggling and special education students learn core fraction concepts. These students were able to employ mathematical practices—to reason abstractly and quantitatively—when they discussed core concepts such as the magnitude of fractions.
Dr. Louisa Moats, a nationally recognized literacy expert, will be honored next week by The Reading League with the Benita A. Blachman Award for Advancing Evidence into Practice.
